      Nose and Tail Art
Here you find pictures of some of the nose art and tail art I have done over the years. When I refer to "tail" art, I am referring to the H-60 Seahawk helicopters the US Navy flies. I have been painting their "tails" since 1999. You can click on the logo below to go directly the art of that unit, or go through each page one at a time.
This H-60 will always be my favorite. When they asked me to paint it, they told me their current paint job was, well, a little lacking. They were called the "WolfPack" and their paint job looked more like a "Rat". I had pretty much free
will to paint anything as long as it had their colors-blue and yellow, a lightning bolt and of course some wolves-mean wolves. So we went to work....They were quite pleased when they saw it! This one I first did in May 2003. I did a re-touch every year after that to keep it fresh.
Here Scott helps prep by removing the grease and exhaust residue. Also here you can see the old baby blue with a gray side view wolf head on it. The first thing I did was repaint the main color in deep Navy blue and add a bright yellow lightning bolt to each side.
Next I air brushed a mean looking wolf face on BOTH sides of the vertical tail
They also wanted something on the sides of the boom-Scott came up with the idea I put it in paint..
My other great helper artist is Roxane Johnson. She is detail oriented and helps with lettering and small detail work.
In 2006 during my last touch up job, I added these wolves per their request on each side on these panel covers.

As we all know things change, and in 2007 "Wolf"161554 will be
transferred to another unit. But, never fear, we will return in 2007 to paint another H-60 for HSL-45 to look just like this one.

Many people ask how much we make painting these helicopters. They are shocked when I tell them "zero" in dollars. What we are "paid" is in the feeling of great pride in doing something that supports our military. We volunteer our time to do this work as our way of supporting our military. We look at these paint jobs as a morale booster and team effort. If I can transform one of their war fighting machines into an object the Skipper is proud to fly and fight in, and the rest of the unit brags about, then I am happy. I've done my job.
